The Ladder Of Success
The human mind has a great affinity for the thought of making it big in life. Every individual on planet earth has the tendency to dream of going places and breaking records. Whenever we wake up in the morning, our utmost wish is to make the best of the day. It will now leave anyone that stop to ponder at the rate of people who are frustrated by business failure and goal abortions in wonder. If we really think deep about this, we will realize our thought process and attitude is to be accused and hanged for this. We usually set our mind on the end goal (i.e to be the model covering the front page of every popular magazine, to make it big in a particular endeavor or to be a renown musician) we all want to start big, to start and be making waves in a jiffy. We often forget that to get to the top of a ladder, we have to start from the lowest step. Success is like a ladder, you have to start from being unknown to be known. It requires a lot of time and sacrifices to climb the ladder of success.
Toyosi, a good friend of mine started a catering service business about seven months ago. Toyosi is a very good caterer, having a mum who taught her well and attending several catering classes was a plus for her. Her aim was to be a leading caterer and a top notch event planner for the high ranking personalities in the country. What a dream! I believed she could do it until about last three weeks when she called me to say she is quitting. I was so shocked so much that I couldn’t talk for about 30 seconds on the phone. What could have happened,? She told me she is frustrated, she isn’t getting any contract. I asked her who are the people she has been running after she told me “commissioners and honorables” I told her to go back and start from the average under the roof party in her neighborhood. Today she is getting contract from the middle class people in the society and soon she will eventually realize her dream of catering for high ranking men in the society. In the first instance, she did not realize she would have to sacrifice some things , have a great bit of patience and work hard from the grassroots to make it big. She had also think, like you and I that making it big is a spontaneous process.
The world is full of Toyosis, there is nothing wrong with thinking we can make it big, setting high target for ouselves, it is in fact neccasary in our journey towards a successful life, but thinking we can start big is a very fatal mistake, one that can lead us to eternal frustration. The secret is to think big and start small. Our eye is always on top, we usually set our vision higher that we fail to realize nothing big can be achieved without starting small. There are more failed businesses, more failed enterprises, more failed missions and aborted goals today because of this single reason. There is a large population out there today, who have all it takes to become successful in life, they have the right skill, the required capital and the near perfect condition to run their business. But you will never see them start. If you ask what’s keeping them, it will be flimsy reasons like --they do not have the money to furnish their shop, the amount they already have cant be used to compete with alternate businesses, they are too big and has more potential to start from thay level. These people failed to realize that for every successful enterprises or a goal accomplished, there is always a story starting from the trash.
World leading success stories has small beginnings, the leading achievers started from somewhere too. From being unknown to getting known and now the world can’t do without their services. Bill Gates, the richest man in the world did not have all the money in a day; in fact, it took him several years of hard labour and perpetual struggle to make it. Today, I have met only a few numbers of computers not using the Microsoft OS. Now every software developer and programmer will be aiming to make it like him, without going through all he had to go through. There is no secret of been a success, you just have to contend yourself to starting from the scratch. Aliko Dangote, the richest black person on earth did not wake up to an empire of enterprises, he had to start small. During his university days, he will be seen doing one business or the other. Then after versity, he started from selling cement in a conner-side shop to owning a wharehouse, today, the rest as they say is history.Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of facebook did not take over the world wide web in a day, he had to start small, through several challenges and trials,he has been able to lay claim to a wide array of world wide network. Yes, today, facebook is internet! The deal is persistence and a strong spirit. You will have to have the strong will, never wait for the opportunity to make it big, never expect to appear today and take the world by storm. No its not done!. Always remember that success is a ladder, you will have to start from the lowest step to end up right on top.
